Castelnau Montratier is a fine arcaded town with all amenities, Sunday markets and three good restaurants/bars. Cahors the closest main town 28 km away. Large markets and a major Blues Festival in June, museums, and the main street is a delight for shopaholics. The River Lot flows through Cahors offering many river type activities.

Walking, Cycling, Truffles and Wine in France

The immediate area around Le Buffan is great for walking and cycling. Lalbenque, the truffle centre of France, is 15 km away and has a Truffle market every Tuesday through the winter months. Lauzerte a hill top town is 17 km away as is Montcuq. During the summer months Montcuq has one of the best markets in the area every Sunday. Caussade has the largest market and is 30 km away. The whole area is famous for the production of fine red wines.

Lalbenque (20km)

The nearby market town is the headquarters of the French truffle industry, and where the price of truffles is set nationwide. In November/October it has a truffle market on Tuesday mornings that is open only to restauranteurs who fly in from all over the country. After lunch it's open to the public.

Lauzerte (15km)

A hill top village with 360degree views, with a great live music bar, and artist studios in abundance.
